Your Denizen debit card can be used to withdraw cash from any cash machine that supports Visa or Mastercard. Below are some best practices when using a cash machine:
What account type should I choose?
Sometimes a cash machine will ask you to choose the type of account, the choices usually are 'credit', 'checking' or 'savings' account. You should choose 'checking' account in these instances.
Should I convert my transaction?
If the card terminal asks whether you would like to withdraw cash 'with conversion' or 'without conversion', you should always choose 'without conversion'. In general, you should always opt to be charged in the native currency of the country you’re in. Whether it's when you are at home or traveling abroad.
By allowing the card machine provider to determine the FX rate used, there can often be hidden markups or embedded international exchange fees because the provider can apply their own exchange rate.
Why was I charged a fee for using a cash machine?
Generally, we are able to stop these fees from ever hitting your account. In some cases, cash machine providers charge a separate fee for using their terminal. When this happens Denizen reimburses these accumulated fees within the first five business days of the following month. So if you see a 'surcharge fee' for using a cash machine on the 12th of March, it will be refunded back to your account in the beginning of April.
